This boat was rebuilt after it was abandoned for 10 years. Some changes have occurred in the restoration:

  • the hull bottom has been repainted with AwlGrip and more details about the work are below;
  • the interior still has original gelcoat, but has some damaged areas with not perfectly color matched gelcoat filled in.

I have a state registration for boat and trailer; IOWA does not require a title for boats or trailers of this size.

TRAILER:
The trailer is an Eagle trailer that I completely rebuilt. We had the entire trailer powder coated white. It got new tires, new bunks and carpet, wiring, lights, and chains. The trailer is perfectly fit to this 13 foot Whaler. It has solid metal fenders that you can stand on, and the jack stand is integrated into the frame.

ENGINE:
The engine is a 2003 Suzuki DF40 that has a little over 100 hours run time. A professional examined it and replaced the intake, the high pressure pump, the CVST, the fuel filters, and cleaned the injectors. I replaced the water pump impeller and gasket and the neutral indicator switch and shift bushing in the control unit. There is also has a new (May 2025) AGM battery. The engine starts on first turn, has a strong confidence steam of cooling water, and runs great.

HULL:
The bottom was sanded bare, damage was repaired with West System epoxy and filler. Two coats of InterProtect 2000E were applied along with three coats of AlexSeal P4420 primer. Sanding was performed between each coat with guide coat. The final two coats are AwlGrip Topcoat in Stark White.

RAILING
This model came with a solid one-piece welded rail. This railing s really quiet when going over waves and feels very solid compared to the traditional rail system with joints.

INTERIOR
The all new mahogany wood interior was purchased from Bob Latourelle. It is finished with Tung oil for a matte look. The wood pieces he was able to get are top-notch, and I highly recommend working with him. All the screws came from him as well and are stainless.

I worked with Sue Lodel to confirm from Boston Whaler what number of the 40th Anniversary Edition this was since the placard was not with the boat. I ordered a new anniversary placard from Magic Brush in Florida. I also ordered an OEM 15-inch steering wheel, white rub rail, and OEM 55-inch stern pole lamp. I had the steering wheel powder coated white to match the original.

There is a 3-gallon tank under the seat and room to add a second one if needed. The single tank will get you about 45 minutes of run time at full throttle. The wiring is also all new along with a new switch for the navigation and anchor lights. There is room on the console to add a gauge or display if desired.
