2023 190 MONTAUK Owner's Manual: Annual Through Hull Drain Procedure Unclear

Postby dpatnaude » Sat Jul 04, 2026 2:19 pm

Q1: what is the [usual maintenance procedure for] the plugs [that close-off the] through hull fittings in the bow locker and fish well on a 2023 190 MONTAUK that the owner's manual indicates need to be checked annually?

The manual indicates that these plugs should be checked annually, but not what the maintenance procedure is.

ASIDE
On my 2023 190 MONTAUK the fishbox and anchor lockers currently have turn-to-tighten plugs instead of the snap-tightening plugs that are mentioned in the manual. This means that to install and tighten the plugs is a two-hand operation because thru hull fitting also seems to want to spin.

The through-hull fittings shouldn’t turn. With a [2023 boat that is so recently made] you should take the boat to a Boston Whaler dealer for inspection under warranty.

I have a 2018 190 Montauk. I always leave the anchor locker drain open. The fish box will be plugged if people are riding in the bow.
