Q1: on a 2004 160 DAUNTLESS where is the fuel tank level sender located?

I want to access the fuel tank level sender in order to assess if the problem with the fuel tank level gauge indicator jumping between EMPTY and 1/3-FULL is due to an electrical problem or a mechanical problem

ASIDE
One owner with a 2003 [160 DAUNTLESS to me the fuel tank level sender isolated] under the pilot's seat, but I'm not sure how to access it through the livewell.

First locate the sending unit cables in the console. With the ignition on have a helper observe the fuel gauge while you move the cables around. If the reading is affected by moving the cables that indicates [the cause of the fluctuating tank level indication] is electrical.

If [the cause of the fluctuating tank level indication] is electrical, then check the connections at the gauge by removing the cables, cleaning the terminals and reconnecting the cables. Then repeat the earlier test.

If you are asking about a fuel tank gauge that is an electrically operated remote gauge, the fuel tank level sender will be located on the top of the fuel tank.

Typically access to the fuel tank level sender will be via a removable deck access plate, typically a circular plate that can be pried out from the deck.

The fuel tank level sender typically is connected to a float mechanism in the fuel tank, and is a variable resistance. For details of the resistance values associated with the tank level, refer to

While the electrical wiring is not shown in the assembly drawings, the small circular plate on aft end of the tank appears to be where the float sender is located. A circular deck access plate appears to align with that area of the fuel tank.

If the fuel tank level sender is actually located at the extreme aft end of the fuel tank, the wide swings in tank level being seen on the remote electrical gauge could be due to fuel sloshing fore and aft in the tank.
