Q1: were the rod holders on a 2002 220 DAUNTLESS rigged with or without drains?

BACKSTORY

On my recently purchased 2002 220 DAUNTLESS I noticed that one PERKO stainless steel rod holder [installed in the gunwales] with a black cap was filled with water. When I removed [the rod holder, I saw that] water was also accumulated in the hole above the foam.

Next I removed another rod holder [that was dry and] without water intrusion to compare the two.

Neither rod holder had a drain, nor could I see a drain [passage] through the foam. I cannot see where the drains would drain any water. I am guessing that is the reason one of the rod holders was rigged with a cap.

Later I found an old diagram for a 2002 DAUNTLESS in which the only rod holders [shown on the diagram] were [aft] and also used for the seat back rest.

[On that basis I concluded that] apparently the previous owner installed the [PERKO stainless steel] rod holders with caps in the gunwales.

My plan is to buy new ones [rod holders] and seal them to avoid water reaching the foam.

Generally rod holders provided as options by Boston Whaler at time of purchase would be Lee's of Miami stainless steel rod holders, although by 2002 perhaps they began to use other brands.

For rod holders to be fitted on the boat and be prone to allow water to drain into the interior of a Unibond hull would not be typical of a factory installation.

Thanks, that's what I thought. These rod holders were not originally installed. I will seal the new flanges and make sure no water gets in.
