I just completed removal of black bottom paint on my 1989 Outrage 22. I just took a break and came right to the forum to tell you about this product: Aircraft & Fiberglass Paint Remover, by Klean Strip.
This is not my first rodeo in removing bottom paint, the application of another product, the wrapping, the hours in wait for reaction, the scraping and sanding, oh ya the cost.
TC Customs Marine in Pt St Lucie, Florida, who does marine fabricating and boat reconditioning, told me about Aircraft Fiberglass Paint Remover by Klean Strip. You can apply the gel by brush or roller to a small area because in just 10 minutes it is ready to be scraped off. I removed 27-years of bottom paint in minutes! I followed up again with a quick second coat and it was coming off with just the paint brush. I then pressure-washed it off. I came around again with a light 330 sand for perfection.
Oh ya, just $30 a gallon.

Re: Removing Bottom Paint
How much did you need for a 22?
Re: Removing Bottom Paint
Well, I may have spoken just a bit prematurely because my bottom paint removal was going So Well.
Today I was finishing up the bottom paint removal and found some spots were More Difficult than other areas of the boat bottom. Maybe I let the Klean Strip Aircraft and Fiberglass Paint Remover stay on to long and dry (15 mins)? Maybe not long enough (5 mins)? Maybe it was the barrier coat? Maybe it was my arms tired of scraping?
As stated yesterday, I applied 1 coat, 5-15 mins scraped, applied again scraped. I then sanded with 60grt and followed up with 180grt.
I still believe this is a Really Great Product, but not a miracle or magic wand.
* PS: 3 gals in total.
