1972 NAUSET Bow Eye Out of Alignment

The towing bow eye got turned 45 degrees from the original alignment on my 1972 NAUSET. Not sure how it happened, but it is STILL firmly attached. Is it possible to turn it back to its proper position without damaging the boat or the bow eye? It would probably take quite a bit of force to do this.
