I am the new owner of a 1972 Sport 13. I am in the process of restoring it, and I have found what looks to be screws in the deck of the boat. From first sight the boat looked great the hull is flawless and the gel coat seems to be original.

Are there supposed to be screws in this location?

From my knowledge they should not be as the boat is made from a mold. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You are probably seeing the pattern of a screw head from the plug used to make the mold. These appear in some very old Boston Whaler boats. Apparently the appearance of these faux-screws in the finished hull were not considered to be an aesthetic violation--at least in boat building of fiberglass production molded boats back in the 1960's

Or, if there are really screws holding down that trim strip, then someone modified the boat, and painted the trim strip blue, covering the screw heads.

I have a 72 Sport 13. As jimh says these are not screws in your boat but are from the mold.
