I have a 2008 150 Sport with a full bow railing, all welded construction. It's really nicely made and great for safety, but getting off the boat when it's beached bow in is difficult.
I'm considering cutting the railing in two places, either on the starboard side near the bow or the very front part of the railing over the cleat and navigation lamp and putting a stainless hinge on one side and a latch with a stainless pin on the other end. The hinge will allow the railing to open and simplify access to the beach yet the pinned latch will keep the railing secure when not open.
My concern is when I cut the railing, will it spring (most likely away from the cut), thus increasing the width of the railing opening.
Q: Has anyone cut the bow railing on the 150 Sport or other comparable Whaler and if so, did the uncut railing move?
Any help will be appreciated.
