My first effort at restoration is a 1965 13-footer. The prior owner had this boat in his yard for [more than ten years].

I began restoration on the hull. The gel coat was planed down to the fiberglass due to the gel coat condition; this work is almost done.

Give me advice on preparing the fiberglass before application of a primer coat. --Don

Your method of using a plane to remove gel coat is very unusual.

I recommend lots of sanding. fairing, and shaping with a fairing compound, for example, with WEST SYSTEM 205 resin, 205 hardener, and 410 microlight filler. Get [the hull surface] as fair as possible. From what I understand, lots of imperfections will show through pain, even applied over a primer.
