1993 16 SL Battery Relocation

Postby cbards » Fri Apr 24, 2020 12:52 pm

The battery on my 1993 16 SL has been moved to the helm console from the starboard side of the engine splashwell.

I wanted to move the battery to the port-side console to better balance [lateral distribution of] weight, but to run two 2-AWG cables there without damage was impossible.

Now both splash wells can be used for storage.

The weight moved forward will help performance.

Thanks for posting about your moving the battery on a 1993 16 SL to the helm console from the stern. Your use of 2-AWG conductors to run the battery primary power to the engine from the new location is a very good choice. Many times a battery is moved to the console and the conductor size chosen for the new and longer cables is inadequate. Use of undersized cable results in excessive voltage drop in the cable. Loss of voltage in the cable reduces the ability to start the engine when the battery state of charge is not at full-charge level.
