Give me ideas how to carry a paddle board a 170 MONTAUK using rail mounted holders or rod holders.

I've been using a stand-up paddle board. It takes up quite a bit of deck space

Use light line to tie the paddle board to the rails.

I recall an owner installed two rod holders and then used them to install recreational board holders for boards or kayaks.

Given the crazy prices I have seen, I would use velcro straps and bungies on the outside rails.

Update. This is with 2 paddleboards that are 10'6". Birdsall SUP mounts.

How is the visibility to the port side? From the photograph it looks as though it would be restricted. That would be a problem for me in most circumstances. Perhaps a location alongside the hull would be preferable. Atop the T-top would be another possibility although the T-top in the photograph appears to be lightly constructed.

You definitely have made good use of your Whaler; the term “Swiss Army knife of boats” comes to mind.

Visibility on the port side is fine when standing. Or, if sitting in the leaning post there's plenty of space to look under the boards/rails. When I trailer the boat or am running it through any type of seas, I keep the boards on the deck wrapped in towels. However, when at anchor being able to get them off the deck has been a game changer. Every few inches helps when it's me, the mrs, and our 2 young boys sharing 17 feet of space haha.

Yes, the Birdsall t-top in the photograph was custom to the boat when it was made new, back in 2007. One of a handful that had the pads put in from the factory and rigged for the t-top. I asked Birsdall about putting outriggers on the t-top, or mounting a paddle board on the t-top and was told from Birdsall definitely do not do that. It is not intended for it. No problem, their rod holder solution works perfectly. I've seen guys struggle getting these boards onto the hardtops of boats, or t-tops before. The rail height is better for that too.

Thanks! This boat is indeed the Swiss army knife of boats. One day can be fishing the gulfstream, 20 miles from the inlet, trolling a 5 line spread. Next day take a couple friends out for drinks and dinner on the boat, or take everyone to the sandbar and spend the day enjoying the water. Grateful for this opportunity to have a 170 Montauk, great boats!
