Folding Foot Rest for Console

After we used our new leaning post, I found that a folding foot rest attached to the console makes the ride more comfortable while underway. The folding foot rests can flip up and away when not in use. They are stainless steel.

I put one on each side of the console. I liked the flip-up feature as our dog typically comes with us and sits under our feet when underway, so don't want her to bang her head on the foot pegs when she is down there.

I bought them on Amazon for about $31 each.

I remember seeing those type steps on transoms a few decades ago. The were used to board the boat from the water.

Butch--the steps I bought are actually mast steps for sailboats. The can also be seen older Bertram 31 boats or similar boats where there are no ladders to the bridge. They are solidly-made and have a screw adjustment on the underside for tension on the foot rest.

If used for vertical climbing, you better be a darn agile climber. If added to a sailboat mast they would create substantial weight aloft and also reduce the mast strength with the holes for fastening. As a foot rest they are probably excessively strong. The flip-up feature is very useful as a foot rest.

I actually had those same “steps” installed on a 1947 22ft wood Chris Craft. They’ve been around for a while!
