Vendor to make electrical switch panel

Postby pred02 » Tue May 04, 2021 5:10 pm

Recommend a vendor to duplicate the panel shown in Figure 1 below from a 210 VENTURA boat.

GO TO: https://newwiremarine.com/custom-marine-switch-panels/

Create your own panel.

I made a custom four-switch panel in the Spring of 2021.

The boat is abroad so I do not have access to the measurements to recreate.

I called Boston Whaler and Ultra Panel. Neither have a [diagram of the panel layout].

I need the panel layout.

It appears you will have to wait to you have access to the panel to get the panel measurements or until someone with a 210 VENTURA joins the discussion.

The switches shown in Figure 1 appear to be CONTURA-series switches. Those switches require a very PRECISE rectangular hole cut-out for mounting, so I do not recommend you attempt to fabricate the panel yourself unless you have numerically-controlled machine tools.

Also, the thickness of the panel as seen in FIgure 1 is quite unusually thick. I would be surprised if the stock CONTURA switch could mount in such a thick panel, and there might be a relief machined into the back side of the panel to permit the CONTURA switch spring leafs to grab onto a thinner part of the panel.

The most reasonable inference to be made from those numbers and letters is as follows:

1453174 = some sort of identification number of completely unknown significance and impossible to interpret
PANEL = a panel
BW = Boston Whaler
210 = a model designator
VT = VENTURA, thus combined with the 210 a 210 VENTURA
-01 = possible a model year designator such as 2001 or a revision number, such as first revision
SWITCH = a switch
RAW = sea water
FRESH = not sea water
WATER = water

Interpretation: a combination letters and numbers that refers to a panel for a Boston Whaler 210 VENTURA possible 2001 Model Year for controlling devices associated with sea water and freshwater.

Using the custom panel wizard [see below for link to the wizard] at New Wire Marine I made two panel variations with two switches and circuit protection.

In Figure 2 below the panel is 4.5-inches tall, 4-inches wide, and has two switches and two circuit breakers.

In Figure 3 below an alternative design in 4-inches tall and 5.4-inches wide; two holes are provided to install fuse holders, similar to the OEM layout

Does the on-line panel creation tool indicate the cost to have the panel designed with the on-line tool produced by the vendor?

The on-line creation tool shows the cost for the panel as you build it. The amount I recall was ~ $80 for the first example.

In addition to selecting the size, switches, breakers and holes, you also have choices for color, finish and wiring.

Just to clarify, was the approximate $80 cost just for the fabrication of the panel WITHOUT the inclusion of the CONTURA switches?

That amount was for the fabricated panel and the switches and breakers I selected.

Compare this to the 3 position panel (2 position panel discontinued) that has non-lit Contura switches and name stickers by Blue Sea Systems that retails for $90.

With the cost of the CONTURA switches included, the $80 price is very attractive, in my opinion. The CONTURA switches are probably at least a $20 to $25 expense at retail.

I found the dimensions.

I am trying to figure out the best option for the panel for the Ventura.

Q: Should I try to recreate this?

Q: What is the matching colour to the panel in the first picture?

Thanks

All the illustrations in this thread are identified by captions with numbers. Please refer to the illustrations by their figure number.

What is the antecedent noun for "this"?

As far as I can tell from the limited information given, a replacement panel needs to meet these criteria:
  1. provide mounting for the four electrical devices
  2. fit into the existing opening in the console
  3. have a hole layout that will re-use the existing mounting holes in the console
  4. not interfere with any adjacent gear already mounted on the console
  5. blend aesthetically with the general style of the helm and other electrical panels
A replacement panel should meet those criteria.

I have a 2001 Ventura 210, with the same fresh and raw water switches. Please let me know if you need any specific measurements.

I talked to George (aka Pred02) several times at length via vidcall back at the start of May.

He has the measurements. He is working on the execution details.
