Give me a source for replacement seat bracket and hinge as seen below in Figure 1 and used for the stern folding seat on a 2000 Conquest 28.

I just got off the phone with Sue—an amazing and helpful woman. She found the assembly is still available from Boston Whaler as a part for $410.

Could this assembly be fabricated or an existing assembly be repaired for less than $410?

In Figure 1 above the only damage appears to be at the right side end of the lower arm. A new arm could be easily made using the old arm as a template. The cost of the material ought to be less than $10.

The challenge is finding a fabricator who will handle such a small task.

I expect the setup and prep will take longer than the fabrication.

An estimate would be ~ $200, half the price of a new one.

Check with Ray Martin or CMI and see what they would charge. If they will even answer your inquiry (they are all swamped)

I followed the thread's advice and just bought the raw material.

Where can I buy a stainless steel rivet [and then put] a washer in between the two halves of the rivet?

McMaster-Carr has an enormous selection of fasteners and provides good service.

If you need to set a rivet so that the rivet forms a coupling that pins together two arms of the device shown above, you should put a shim into the rivet-arms-rivet junction, set the rivet, and then remove the shim. Make the thickness of the shim appropriate to the amount of free play you want to have in the rivet-arm-rivet junction. You can also add washers if you think they will be necessary.

A simple way to install a river is to use an aluminum rivet with a tool that pulls out the backside of the rivet and cuts off the excess. You can buy these so-called Pop-Rivets at most any hardware store.

To be clear on "swivel" I refer to the M-W.COM definition: a device joining two parts so that one or both can pivot freely (as on a bolt or pin).

I would avoid rivets altogether. They are a cheap effective way to form a hinge but do not last as you have discovered. I would be using NutSerts and bolts to create the pivot points. NutSerts are actually rivets but the main advantage is that they create a female thread to work with. Even using some shoulder bolts if they are available in stainless. NutSert tools are available fairly cheap on Amazon if it is a one time use I would go that route. Otherwise, you could borrow mine and order some NutSerts or send me the pieces and I can install the NutSerts for you. If you have any interest PM me.
