1976 Sport 15 Console Removal

Postby bcnapolitano » Mon Jun 28, 2021 6:55 pm

Give me advice on removing the side console from my 1976 SPORT 15 so I can refinish or replace the console. The console has one leg on the floor and the [starboard] side attaches to the sideboard. The leg now has a piece of pressure-treated 2x4 on either side—I'm assuming to support it.

Is the console leg fastened to the [deck] with anything other than screws?

On my 1976 SPORT 15 there was no 2 x 4 lumber associated with the console support leg at the deck. The port side of the console was supported by a riser from the deck. The riser was fitted to a small mahogany wood base on the deck, as seen in the illustration at

I suggest you remove any visible screw fasteners that appear to fasten the leg to the deck. The console should then be able to be lifted out.

If the leg is not free from the deck, then a prior owner has probably used an adhesive to retain it.
