2017 210 MONTAUK Leaking Caulk Seams

Postby magothyboy » Thu Aug 12, 2021 10:48 am

I have a 2017 210 Montauk. The caulked seams on the deck at the stern and around the console-deck joint are leaking.

Can these leaking seams on a 210 MONTAUK be repaired without tearing the boat apart?

Are the seams currently sealed with silicon sealant? If so, scrape out the old sealant and clean the sealing surfaces. Reapply the sealant. To avoid the need to reseal the seams as often do a good cleaning job and use a good sealant. When cleaning the boat avoid spraying the seams with high pressure water. Power washers are particularly prone to damage silicon sealants if not used extremely carefully.

I started noticing water and dirt [inside] my console. I looked for the source. The factory caulking had shrunk, leaving cracks where water and fine dirt could enter the console.

My boat is five-years-old; I don't think it fair to blame the factory. Repair [of caulked seams] is routine maintenance.

Is there a caulk that absolutely will not mildew?

I (and many other owners) use Boat Life's Life Caulk and do not have a problem with mold.

If you have mold in an enclosed space, keeping the area dry and vented is important.

There is no mold-proof caulk.
