I am beginning restoration of a 1970 Katama 16 boat. The upholstery is in poor condition.

I am not particularly interested in retrofitting modern seats.

Q1: what options exist for restoration of the original upholstered seats?

Q2: is a direct replacement seat available?

Q3: is hiring an upholstery shop to restore the original seats the best option?

Thanks for your advice

OEM replacement would be Anderson's in Florida.

If the foundations are in good shape, have a local shop rebuild with foam and vinyl.

Sue Lodel at Twin Cities may have a recommendation on a shop in the WI/MN area.

In case anyone's curious, I've received unofficial quotes for $1200-$1600 from the local upholstery shops to restore the two bucket seats and the bench seat.

If you are looking for a possible alternative.

I have seen the two seats replaced with rod back cushions and a full seat cushion from Andersons.

Ask Tena to quote you. Could be less and OEM quality.

Come to think of it, they might offer the seat in its entirety.
