Outrage 22 Cuddy Stern Seat

Postby BocasThunder » Wed Jan 12, 2022 6:45 pm

Give me a recommendation for a stern seat for an OUTRAGE 22 CUDDY. I bought an OUTRAGE 22 CUDDY with no stern seat.

I see 30-inch wide cooler seats from $100 to $900, but they are too narrow.

On my boat there are some steel slots screwed to the deck that look like mounting brackets.

You have several choices, it just depends on your preferences and budget.

Anderson's makes the full width OEM rear upholstered bench seat. Contact Tena @ http://www.amfg.us

Many members have fabricated a rear bench seat out of wood slats with a seat base that folds down when not in use. I have even seen large swim platforms cut down into a seat. Cushions can be sourced from Andersons.

Another choice are two large coolers with cushions. This option allows for significant storage and the units are removeable.

Folding bench seat - Birdsall makes some very good products.

My 1990 REVENGE 22 W-T Whaler Drive boat has the upholstered OEM stern seat whose ends wrap around and taper to the seat cushion height. It is a very comfortable seat. The seat design, the faux leather vinyl material in parchment color, and the dark brown piping fit the classic Boston Whaler motiff perfectly.

Typically on a open transom 22-foot hull there would be a tubular crossmember running from the gunwales across the aft end of the cockpit, and the seat back would be supported by that frame. I do not think the OEM seat back is strong enough to work with no added back support.

The OEM stern seat had tubular legs. The inside diameter of the tubular legs was a perfect fit onto inverted oarlock fittings that were fastened to the deck with an overlaying plate and four screws. If the seat is removed these short posts remain on the deck and become a trip hazard.
