I have been using the Pettit Trailercoat brand paint to keep my 1989 Magic Tilt trailer as rust free as possible. It is a moisture cured polyurethane that is extremely durable. It has been discontinued by Pettit and very hard to find. I saw that Pettit makes other rust inhibitor paints so I called their home office to speak to a technical associate. He said that the Rustlok paint is the exact same thing as the Trailercoat. The Pettit literature addresses overcoating and topcoating while still tacky due to the extreme hardness of the cured paint. It doesn't say if it requires it to be topcoated the way the silver POR-15 does. [POR-15 silver will yellow due to ultraviolet light if not topcoated] The associate said the Rustlok can be used alone just as the Trailercoat could. No topcoat required. I highly recommend this product for keeping your trailers looking as good as new.
