Recommend a quality door latch--other than from Specialty Marine--to hold closed the console door of a 1987 MONTAUK 17 while the boat us underway. A cost of $40 is okay. The door latch does not have to have a key lock.

You can install a simple brass door catch.

Worked for me on my Montauk 17.
