Need Diagrams Related to SUPER SPORT 15

Postby Horsbox » Thu May 05, 2022 4:30 pm

[This article has been separated from another very long thread of articles which discusses and illustrates (with over 50 illustrations) the process of the restoration of another boat by another person. Rather that change the topic of that thread to a new topic about a new boat, this post has been removed from the prior thread and is now its own topic--Moderator]

In the United Kingdom on the south coast in Portsmouth, I am doing a complete [restoration] of [a boat only described as being about the same vintage as a 1988 SUPER SPORT 15 but differentiated from that model because the boat that is the topic of this new thread has] the sloped dashboard

I stupidly forgot to take measurements of positions of the rigging before [the boat was painted with a] primer [coat],and now all the mounting holes [for the gear enumerated below] have been covered up.

Please give me the a diagram with dimensions that shows the position of the following component of my boat:
  • Console
  • Decals
  • [a navigation lamp that was probably meant to be called the White All-Round lamp
  • the wraparound hand rails

The search feature of this website is very good. It covers over 22 years of topics and posts. Often one can find the answer faster by searching using a few keywords than posting.

Reviewing the REFERENCE section is also a wise use of time. Grab a cuppa and get comfy. It's a good read.

Several owners have shifted the interior forward a few inches (mm) to offset the weight of the heavier four-stroke-power-cycle engines. See photos here for reference:

White All-round pole lamp location: Starboard side of transom inside wall, ~ 50 mm to the right transom eye. The top of the knurled nut is level with the threaded rod.

On my 1976 SPORT 15 the pole lamp for the White All-Round light was mounted on port. The required navigation lighting rules do not specify a particular side of the boat for the lamp location.

The distance away from the transom eye can be gauged by the illustration. Note that because the transom interior face begins to curve around to meet the hull side interior wall, and because the mounting base needs a flat surface, the lamp position cannot move very far outboard because of the curve radius increasing as you go farther away from the transom. If you look very closely at Figure 1, there is a washer used to shim the lower mounting brackets so its alignment with the top mounting bracket is better.

The decision on Port or Starboard will be made based on where the hidden wiring from the combined sidelight bi-color lamp exits through the cockpit wall. If that wiring is on the Starboard side, the White All-round pole lamp should go on Starboard. If that wiring is on Port, the pole lamp usually would be on Port.

Whichever side has the wires from the bow navigation light daylighting from the gunwale cap is the appropriate side of the boat for the stern light.

You can get some help with searching at the SEARCH Page. See

Searching continuousWave.com content
https://continuouswave.com/whaler/search.html

For help sourcing components see

Original Equipment Manufacturers and
Recommended Vendors

https://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/OEM.html

For information specific to the 15-foot hull see

https://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/15/

There are many images of 15-foot hull on the website. You can find them with a Google image search at

https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3A ... r+Sport+15

Shift the search TAB to IMAGES from ALL to just see images.

Thanks Phil T/Jim H

From my further research it seems the factory was at best a bit random providing the key parts hit the wood intregral to the hull.

I have also found out that the decals are usually about 8’’ from the stern and 2.25’’ from the rubrail but again varied over the years.

Will post some images when I find out how….
