Q1: How are the backrests detached from the the aft seats on 2004 190 NANTUCKET?
Q2: On a 2004 190 NANTUCKET is aft seat backrest attachment done with screws and a plate?
[Moderator's note: perhaps what was intended was to refer to the upholstered cushions that create a backrest.]

According to the final assembly diagram and parts list for your boat at
https://www.bostonwhaler.com/resources-and-maintenance.htmlwhere you can find lots of other useful info, the aft quarter seat cushions are simply mounted with snap studs. On my 2003 160 Dauntless, these snaps tend to corrode easily and it can be hard to separate them without pulling them right out of the vinyl, so exercise care. A bit of grease or vaseline on the snap when you reassemble it may help you for next time.

A
snap tool for boat canvas snaps is available on Amazon for about $19. I have used the tool and it is helpful for unsnapping and snapping of canvas and vinyl without damage.
[Moderator's note: added hypertext link to a tool for sale on the referenced website for about $19.]

Thanks Butch. I just ordered the snap tool, and it will be a big help with new canvas seat cushions for my 2003 190 Nantucket.
