Montauk 17: Downrigger Power Outlet Placement

Postby Merganser101 » Thu Aug 04, 2022 7:42 pm

For a 1986, Montauk 17 boat, give me a creative suggestion based on your actual experience for where to place a power outlet to provide power to rail mounted downriggers. Also give me a creative suggestion for the path of the power wiring.

BACKSTORY
I fish for salmon. I have added rail mounted Scotty downriggers to my 1985 MONTAUK 17 boat. I previously had a Grady-White boat, and on that boat I could run the wiring through the gunwale. That does not seem to be an option on a MONTAUK 17 boat.

This is probably not very creative and is not based on actual experience:
  • run the power wiring to the rail-mounted motors for the downriggers in the space between the side railings and the hull inwale.
  • for a power outlet, use a cable-end connector rather than mounting a connector on a bulkhead, as there are none on a MONTAUK.
