2008 130 SPORT Project

Postby Kupono » Mon Jan 16, 2023 6:56 am

I have decided to make several repairs to my 2008 130 SPORT that have been put off for more than one year. To repair broken steering, I dismantled the helm console. Despite the challenge of corrosion, I was able to remove the old steering cable and disassemble the console. I also removed the old engine remote throttle and shift controls. I have purchased a new Mercury OEM remote throttle and shift control.

In the future I plant to replace these electrical components:
  • sump pump
  • sump pump control switch
  • combined sidelight lamp
  • switch controlling navigation lamps
  • 12-Volt accessory outlet

In the future also plan to accomplish these tasks:
  • install an electrical circuit for a SONAR
  • install a VHF Marine Band radio
  • install loudspeakers and an audio amplifier
  • install a device called a "smart gauge"
  • install a second battery for house loads
  • make repairs to small areas of damage to the fiberglass
  • replace screw fasteners that have rust
  • perform service on the 40-HP outboard engine before March 2023

In the future I will post photographs and update readers on these projects.

Before attempting the installation of a VHF Marine Band radio on a small boat, read this article and its many linked articles that give information on that topic:
