1991 OUTRAGE 18 Stern Seat Repair

Postby Will » Fri May 26, 2023 9:42 am

I need to rebuild and reupholster the aftermarket rear seat for my 1991 Outrage 18. This seat has plywood as a base. I am considering using a PVC or PVC-type material for the rebuild.

Q1: what thickness of PVC-type material would be appropriate to use for the seat base on an aftermarket rear seat for an OUTRAGE 18?

Most of the PVC is not structural.

The achilles heal of the seat was the plywood was not sealed.

If you used plywood, cut to size and then coat with epoxy. It will outlive you.

Thank you Phil. I did not know it was non-structural so thank you for that.

Q2: will 3/4-inch marine grade plywood suffice?

Q3: should multiple coats of epoxy via brush be applied?

The plywood as it came did not last very long.

I think 3/4-inch plywood will suffice.

Several coats of epoxy by brush will seal it. Take time for the edges.
