I am considering cutting in half the Unibond hull of my 1981 15-foot Red Dot hull in order to lengthen the hull by one foot. My skill at laminating is "alright."

Q1: will this be a good winter project?

Q2: in the history of the Boston Whaler Unibond hull, has any Unibond hull been cut in half and lengthened by one foot?

BACKSTORY. The 15-footer has a 2019 HONDA BFP 60-HP engine, which is a bit heavy. The goal for lengthening the hull is to cause the stern to have more buoyancy so that the engine splash well drains will be above the waterline.

If you want a longer hull, buy a new boat.

I think you would be better off selling the heavy motor and finding an older used 2 stroke power cycle engine as opposed to your plan. The resale value of your lengthening project would suffer compared to an original hull.

Local - I believe the result would be a ruined hull. You may be able to do it but the chances of success are virtually nil. If you want a larger boat get another boat.

You would need extensive fiberglassing experience.

The required effort would amount to hundreds of hours, thousands of dollars and a wrecked hull with limited to no resale value.

Get a 17' Super Sport instead.

No one in their right mind would ever buy a Boston Whaler Unibond hull that a previous owner had cut in half. The resale value would be below zero.

As far as I know, no one has ever tried to cut in half a Boston Whaler Unibond hull and lengthen it by one foot. Generally people who buy Boston Whaler boats buy them for the way they were originally made, not because someone cut them in half and tried to make them longer.
