My 1984 Outrage 22 has a metal (aluminum, I believe) plate with the Hull Identification Number (HIN) on the transom. After 41 years, the HIN is wearing off, but is still somewhat readable. There is also a stencil number that identifies hull liner.

The federal regulations do not differ on how the required federal hull identification number should be presented based on the length of the boat or the particular model name of the boat.

Federal regulations established three epochs of manufacturing years in which the form of the federal HIN was different. The FAQ goes into considerable detail about how the required federal hull identification must be implemented on the transom of boats.

Federal requirements regarding how the federal HIN was to be implemented were changed in 1983. Because your inquiry for the two specific years has both years following 1983, then both would be subject to the same rule change.
