Q1: to access the fuel sending unit [possibly means the fuel tank level sender] on a 2000 DAUNTLESS 16 does the entire floor [cockpit deck] need to be removed?

We had a 1999 Dauntless 16. It has been a long time since we sold the Dauntless but I seem to remember an access plate aft of the console. The fuel tank can be seen under the batteries to provide the orientation of the location. It may have been under the RPS or behind it but I favor it being between the RPS and the console.

At any rate it would be unnecessary to remove the entire deck. A small circular hole carefully cut to accommodate a circular cover would provide access to the sending unit.

Why is access needed?

I need the access to replace the fuel sending unit.

On my 2003 160 Dauntless there was an access port for the fuel level sender inside the helm seat. It was very easy to access, unless perhaps you have the optional livewell in the seat.

Thanks, I do have the live well. I think the access hole is under the console. I just want to make sure that this access hole is for the fuel sending unit before I remove the console.

It is not difficult to change the fuel tank sending unit of a Dauntless 16. Before removing the console remove everything under the console. That may well provide the necessary access and the items in the console will need to be removed even after the console is removed. If the console must ultimately be removed try tilting forward rather than removing it completely.

It turns out that the fuel sending unit is under the live well. Good news is that the live well comes out easily, no screws, just lift it up and there is the access hole.
