Reading [another thread on the topic of propellers which used vents to direct exhaust from inside the propeller hub to intentionally aerate the water flow into the propeller blades] I couldn't help but reminisce and chuckle a bit over Offshore Magazine's revolutionary propeller story from the early 90's. Who remembers it?

Porthole--I remember it well. Drilling large holes in the prop blades so the prop could 'advance' in the water, gaining speed and efficiency. The engineer who wrote the article was Loo Flirpa--very funny, yet some took it seriously. It was written for a special day--who remembers?

Have you ever wondered if anyone tried modifying their propeller?

It is "alleged" that some members of a local USCG station near Manasquan inlet might have tried it :-)
