Got the Viper prop changed to a 19 pitch on the Gen 1 E-tec 150 and ran it last night. Got 48.9 mph against the wind and 50.5 mph with the wind. Wide open RPMs were between 5500 and 5700. The boat didn't porpoise. It porpoised before with the 17 pitch Viper prop and was at the max rpms. It only went 41 mph with the 17 pitch but I couldn't trim it because of the rpms were too close to the redline. All speeds were measured by GPS. I find it strange that the 2 inch increase in pitch would increase the speed by almost 10 mph. Last night was in fresh water and the 17 pitch Viper test was in salt water. The motor is as high as it will go at 3 holes up and the bottom is painted.

This is an addendum to the ongoing thread
1999 Outrage 17 with E-TEC 150: First Ride found here:
http://continuouswave.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3329&p=18906#p18906You are still at or above max RPM's.
I would drop the motor 1 hole lower. This will keep you from exceeding the 5500 max WOT rpm's. I think you are really close to ideal.
Retest and report.

rpm range is 4850-5850 on this engine according to the owners manual. The anti-ventilation plate isn't above the water.

Mea culpa.
Disregard my last post. Was mixing up 90 and 150 WOT ratings.
The anti-ventilation plate should be at or very slightly above the water level at medium speed. Right?
Time to post photos for us to drool over!
