In December 2019 I bought a legacy E-TEC 150 V6 2.6-litre engine, and I am loving it. The engine torque is amazing. With my OUTRAGE18, top speed with five people is about 4-MPH less than top speed with one person.

I also purchased seven-year warranty. I hope parts for the engine will be continued to bemanufactured. I suspect they will.

My previous engine was a 1996 Johnson 130. That was a great engine but terrible on gasoline. I bought a new OEM fuel [pump] for the 130 at a cost of $450. I sold the engine for $600. OEM part sales is a profitable business.

Since this is the performance section....what is your performance numbers, GPH, etc?

You sold a 1996 Johnson 130 with a new fuel pump and nothing else wrong with it except old age--for $600? I need to learn how to shop where people like you are selling.

I paid $1,200 for a used (but complete) 1987 Mercury 150-HP powerhead only. It's been reliable as the day is long for the last eight years, and of course it's horrible with fuel. But I'm OK with that. I don't think I could ever make up the difference in price vs. something new, no matter how much more I spend on gasoline.

Performance: I'm told that by 1987, the horsepower was "prop rated", so it should compare with 150 hp on modern engines. Except it's only 2.0-litre not 2.6-liter. So it can't hope to compare on torque with your 2.6l 150-HP. With the light weight speed-form (non-Boston Whlaler] hull it's mounted on, it goes about 55-MPH in smooth water with a 24-inch propeller and me, my wife, and two little girls.

Re outboard engine power ratings being made at the propeller shaft: the ICOMIA organization published a standard in 1983 which came into general use by engine manufacturers soon afterwards. See the REFERENCE article I wrote that reproduced the ICOMIA standard in clear text:

The ICOMIA 28-83 standard specified that outboard engine power ratings be based on power measured at the propeller shaft.
