SUPER SPORT 15 with F70 on Jack Plate

Postby dtmackey » Wed Jul 28, 2021 9:44 am

I finally had time to get some data on boat performance after the engine break-in on my Super Sport 15 with 2020 Yamaha F70 with eight hours.

Testing with 13-gallons of fuel, 125-lbs of gear, the jackplate at full raised position of six inches, and stainless 17-pitch propeller (but I think it’s closer to 18-pitch):

Top boat speed was 45.1-MPH at engine speed 6,300-RPM and on the rev limiter.

The test was in fresh water with no wind or current and speeds are GPS speeds over ground in the same area, back and forth.

The boat has bottom paint, so I’m thinking there’s still more if I run a lighter load and another propeller.

Having the motor jacked six inches above the transom lip is ideal: no problems although a propeller better designed for surfacing may provide better top end boat speed.

The Anti-Ventilation plate is clearly visible.

In the illustrations below my son is running the SUPER SPORT 15 at about 30-MPH and the F70 engine is NOT trimmed up. The boat exhibits zero chine walk and was rock solid.
