13-footer 20-HP

Postby razadazza » Thu Aug 12, 2021 5:31 pm

On my [1981--PLEASE USE FOUR DIGITS FOR YEARS] 13-footer with Sourpuss interior I have a SUZUKI 20-HP engine. The 13-footer with 20-HP goes real good and will get on plane—even against the tide—with two adults aboard. With four adults on the 13-footer with a 20-HP engine, the boat will still plane, but not as easily as it will plane with two adults. For my needs a 20-HP engine is enough power for a 13-footer.

I do not think the motion of the tide relative to the boat affects the ability of the engine to push the boat unto plane. From the boat's point of view, the ability to reach plane depends entirely on the boat's speed through the water. The boat does not care if the water is moving with the boat or against the boat, and the boat cannot tell the difference. The effect of the tide only causes the boat's speed over bottom to change.
