13-footer with 40-HP

Postby Mudshark » Sun Apr 10, 2022 8:48 pm

I have a 1976 13-footer with a 1988 Evinrude 40-HP engine, but no propeller. When I check other 13-footers with Evinrude or Johnson 40-HP engines, the propeller used are all different sizes

Give me a recommendation for a general use propeller.

In 1988 what propeller was installed at the factory for an Evinrude 40-HP engine?

Generally an outboard engine would not be sold with a propeller as a factory-bundle by the engine manufacturer. Typically the dealer selling the engine would select an appropriate propeller based on the application for the engine. There is no "standard" factory propeller.

For general use an aluminum three-blade propeller will be a good choice. The propeller must be selected to fit the engine's propeller shaft and hub diameter. The propeller blade diameter must fit the propeller aperture. And the propeller pitch must permit the engine to accelerate into the factory recommended full-throttle optimum speed range.

There are many older discussions involving a 13-footer and 40-HP. Here is one example
