2001 DAUNTLESS 16 Suzuki DF140BG: will report on performance in future post

Postby Mrkheiser » Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:29 am

I am excited to share that I have a 2001 DAUNTLESS 16, and I have recently placed an order for a SUZUKI 140BG electrical remote control engine.

The engine installation is scheduled for April 2023.

I will update [by starting a new thread with information about the boat speed and engine speed, engine mounting height, and propeller brand, model, and pitch ] once the SUZUKI 140 BG new engine is fitted to the 2001 DAUNTLESS 16 boat [and on the water data about performance has been taken in careful testing].

Congratulations on your purchase of an exceptionally fine boat. I'm sure you will enjoy the very spirited performance of the boat with the 140 Suzuki engine.

Let us know how much water comes over the transom when the boat is rapidly decelerated from hydroplane. And also tell us how far below the static waterline the drains of the engine splash well are immersed at rest.

Ensure the tech installs the engine at least two-holes up, that is, top bolt in the third hole down from the top.

While not exact, I would start with a 14x20 3-blade Suzuki stainless propeller, and put consider a 14x18 four-bladed version to help in low speed planing and reducing bow rise on accelerating.

Once you get the new engine installed, get past the break-in period, and do propeller testing and gather data, you can report your findings in a new thread.

Generally reporting the data is preferred over reporting that you will in the future report the data.

The SUZUKI DF140BG engine performance will be a most interesting topic once you get some test data.

See the pinned topic at the top of this forum on what data to report.

What is the maximum suggested horsepower rating for that particular hull?

For a 2001 DAUNTLESS 16 the maximum rated power is 115-HP, and the transom weight maximum is 455-lbs
