Consult the owner's manual of your Mercury engine for advice about using it with non-lead-acid batteries.

The term "Lithium battery" is meaningless. You need to specify the specific chemistry used.

Further, batteries using lithium chemistry vary widely in their design, construction, quality, and inclusion of additional electronic or electrical elements inside the battery case such as temperature sensors, voltage sensors, and current sensors which monitor the battery and are able to completely disconnect the battery from the external circuitry in order to protect the battery from damage due to temperature, current, or voltage conditions that would be harmful.

I suspect that in the case of a Mercury outboard engine, the factory advice will likely mention use of a battery made by another operating unit of Brunswick that produces marine batteries, sold under the RELiON brand. See

https://www.relionbattery.com/

If recommended by Mercury, using a RELiON battery would be the best choice on the basis that there would be (or at least there SHOULD be) no wiggle room in the engine warranty or the battery warranty if there were some harm caused to the engine or the battery due to use of a non-lead-acid battery.

My recollection is some particular models of Mercury outboard engine are said to be usable with certain lithium-ion batteries of particular chemistry, but to be appropriately cautious the safe approach is to carefully check the advice in the owner’s manual of the particular engine you have to verify there is an explicit approval of use of lithium chemistry batteries with the engine.

ASIDE: I am curious about your interest in using a "lithium" battery.

Q1: what benefit to you expect to occur from use of a "lithium" battery with your Mercury outboard engine?
