In about a week in Europe the METS TRADE (Marine Equipment Trade Show) takes place in The Netherlands. It is said to be the world’s largest trade exhibition of equipment, materials, and systems for the international marine leisure industry. At each show, they announce their DAME prize award winners. The acronym DAME stands for Design Award METS--and you can't imagine how obscure this definition is to find. In the above listing, some entrants have no linked URL to the product. For those products I did not find a particularly cogent web page to offer as a link for more information.

The winner: DX900+ MultiLog form Airmar Technology, a bluetooth-enabled, multifunctional sensor. This product is so new I cannot find any information about it. There is a just-posted recorded presentation on youTube. (See link below.) In the presentation the device is described as

"a dual-axis electro-magnetic speed log. The function of this is to tell the speed in the direction of travel of the boat, and also, for the first time, the sideways travel of the boat...It's been a lot of hard work, but we think this is a revolutionary product....It's really targeted to performance sailing...and also there is an application in power boats...This product actually allows the measurement of this important characteristic called leeway angle for the first time. It has always been derived through some calculations that [were] never instantaneous."
