I am rigging a 2004 Mercury 40-HP two-stroke-power-cycle engine. This engines be was laying in the cockpit when we bought the boat and had never been mounted.

What engine gauges should I install at the helm?

The fundamental engine gauges are:

• tachometer
• temperature
• cooling water pressure
• alternator voltage
• trim position

On a 13-foot skiff, perhaps just a tachometer would be sufficient.
