Garmin 94sv and 2005 Mercury OptiMax Engine Data

I recently bought a Garmin 94sv. My SC1000 liquid crystal dislays don’t work anymore.

I understand that I will need a Mercury gateway to connect to a NEMA-2000 network.

Q1: will alarm data be displayed on the Garmin?
Q2: is the alarm just a check engine light?
Q3: is a full [NMEA-2000] network needed if I only have one device to connect?
Q4: can the one device just be connected to the gateway?

I am looking for the simplest setup. I most likely will need a new junction box since my current junction box only has four ports and three are used already.

Yes. A proper NMEA-2000 network must have terminating resistors and a power insertion node.

In order for a NMEA-2000 multi-function display to be able to show proprietary engine data like alarms, the display device must indicate it has special compatibility with the particular engine. Further, because the data from the engine is coming to the NMEA-2000 network via a gateway, whether the gateway has the ability to translate engine alarms into specific NMEA-2000 datagrams is unknown. As a general answer, I would not expect unique engine alarm warnings to show up via the gateway and a generic display.

You should look into the Vessel View product. It may be less expensive than the Gateway, building out a NMEA-2000 network, and getting the firmware needed on the GARMIN to be able to show Mercury engine proprietary data--if that feature is even possible.

Thanks Jim.

I will look into a Mercury VesselView display as a solution [as an alternative to a NMEA-2000 network and a multi-function display from a non-Mercury source].
