I found a realy nice 1986 Newport that I an considering making an offer on. Does anyone know what the weight diffrence is between a 17 Montauk & 17 Newport? I only have the corvette as a tow vehical & I am conserned about weight. I do like the extra "cap" on the rails it gives a place to store my Fly Rods. Anyone know if A 12' fly rod will fit in there?

950 for the Newport vs. 900 for the Montauk base weights

Those weights are for the boat only. Gotta
add motor, trailer, fuel, battery, etc.
I figure my whole Montauk rig weighs
around 2000 pounds or a little more.

Check your owner's manual. The manual for
my '87 vette says towing is not recommended.

I own a 1979 Newport which I enjoy very much. 12'Flyrod ? Maybe..The only problem that I have had are the front bucket seats The inside wood guts are failing fast. New replacements are 450.00 each !!

I checked with a local 'Vet owner who said don't try to trailer anything that big with it. He said that the Vet's transmission can't handle towing due to the way it's geared for high end rather than for loads. Also the breaks will be a problem trying to stop a following load.
