I have a Doral, but I want a Whaler... I usually fish on Lake Ontario for Salmon... downriggers... and want a safe boat for the big water it can throw... what would be the Minimum the crowd would recommend?

For fishing offshore in the Great Lakes you will want an Outrage series Whaler.

Probably a 22 or 25 would be the most comfortable, although I am sure you would survive in an 18, too.

Good day CanadianWhaler, as per you looking for a boat for Lake O. Depending how far offshore you go, I would imagine you would be fine in a classic 17. Common sense would be the operating theme but using this boat would allpw you to keep it easily trailered and towing it to our local ramps would be relativly simple affair ( traffic in TO is not very kind to people trailering boats )What ever you decide do make sure to try before you buy
