We are planning a trip (with the whaler 15) to the keys in April. Any suggestions of day trips, fishing tips, boatels and preferred charts would be appreciated. We plan on staying 5 nights in the Keys. Activities include exploring, fishing, snorkeling, scuba and general relaxing. All will include the Whaler.
This will be the first big trip after the renovation (repower to 70, sand and varnish all wood, new gelcaot and new rubrail). This all started as a general winter cleaning.

After living in the Keys for two years here are my recommendations.
Snorkel/Dive at John Pennekamp State park. Key largo.
You also way want to do some shallow water fishing near Islamorada or Bahia Honda State park.
Great snorkeling and diving out of Marathon, Sombrero Light and The Thunderbolt(wreck dive)
Gotta got to Key West, go to for a hotel. Fabulous diving, two wrecks (Joe's Tug and the Cayman Salvager) and a bunch or shallow reef stuff, all about 7 miles o/s. Good fishing too, live bait for tarpon in the turning basin. My last recommendation is to get a few beers and go for a nice sunset cruise around the Island. Should Have nice weather in April

Do you have any Military affiliation?
If so, there are many very economical places to stay as well as free boat ramps etc..

Trainer- I've posted the following before. There is motel etc called Lime Tree just south of Islamorda (On Layton) that tiiiiiimmme forgot. It has a ramp that can handle the 15' Whaler just fine. We've been there serveral times over the yrs-not in past 3. The price is right with the location fab. Worth a call. Have fun David

trainer, you'll love it there, I was in the Keys last summer. Stop in at the 'welcome center' as your entering the Keys, you can get great deals on motels, etc..
ps> there's a decent article in the latest Trailer Boats magazine (March issue), on Key West.
