Montauk option I've never seen

Check out this Montauk available on e-bay. It's got an optional "fish-box" on both sides of the console running forward. Has anyone else seen this, or is it an aftermarket job? The owner claims it to be a factory option.

Also, the console is interesting. The boat is sold as an '84 model, but the console looks dated prior to that time.

That's the optional bow platform. It's fairly common. There's been much prior discussion of it here on the FORUM.
The console is indeed a console from the 1977 to 1982 Montauks. I'll bet that boat is actually a 1982 model.

I had one of those in my 76. I think 80 or so was the last year. Console is wrong and so are decals for a 84.
Unless you really desire a 100lb casting platform.....waste of money, weight and space. No real storage to be gained. The side storage will hold 2 or 3 fiire extinguishers. The front storage just allows access to the deck. Anything put in there will get wet and may be hard to find when you want to retrieve it. Also takes away the cooler seating.

What it does do well though is provide enough space to spread out a couple of air mattresses and sleeping bags and provides a fantastic cuddy if you will, with the forward shelter set up if this one had one. Spent a couple of night in such a setup I was impressed...

I was able to view this boat when it was for sale on eBay. I checked out the Model number on the rivited tag at it was 83E... Don't quote me on the E part but the boat was a 1983. The console appeard to be original for that boat. I wasn't ablt to talk to the owner as the boat was displayed at an RV lot. I had never seen the forward deck before and was interested in checking it out. Most of you are right, doesn't have much storage but would make a nice place to sleep.
