Have a 90hp from about 92-93 and the cowling is in pretty rough shape. I am planning on refurbing it by stripping the decals, filling the fiberglass chips, etc and then re-spraying it. Does anyone know what the Johnson paint code is? Where would I go about buying the paint? Don't know if there is a special marine paint for such an application or not. The spray can of touch up paint wouldn't do too good of a job for such a large area.

I just painted the cowling on my Evinrude. I went to the Evinrude dealer and they have large spray cans that match the color for the particular year of motor. I have always had good luck with a spray can so it was very easy for me. Some spray guns can be a pain in the neck.

Your dealer can provide the paint code numbers. As Joe pointed out the paint is available in spray cans but can also be puchased in quart cans for a spray gun.

Kolbert- Go to a service guy who does nothing but Ev/Johnson engines. He should have just what you need- a piece of cake. Put down some marine grade (zinc) primer before you shoot the color. I touched up my old dog 225 Johnson this way. I hear new decals are a bit costly. .03 David

Zinc primer is for metal....just buy a can of Tempo Johnson white and it matches all years from 1977- present.
