I have inherited a 1971 Katama with a 100hp Evinrude. My father bought this boat new (replacing a 13' Whaler) and it hasn't been in the water in about 5 years. The steering system is frozen and I can't get it to budge. I contacted Boston Whaler and they recommend going to a Teleflex No Feedback Steering system and they provided the appropriate part numbers. Anyone have any experience in converting the steering on an older Whaler?
Also, anything special I should do to the engine before attempting to crank it after this much time out of the water?
My local Whaler dealer hasn't been too helpful as they only work on boats that they sell.

what length cable do you need? I have qty. 3 15 foot NFB systems in my basement that I would like to sell. I would like to get $100 for each system. If you do your homework you will see that is a good deal.

as far as retrofitting an older whaler the oldest that I have converted is a 1979 13'Sport, converted from pulley to cable steering, I am not sure what you will get into. Can you get a picture posted so that I can see the transom? I have a few kits that we can probably make something work.
