I understand everyone recommends sanding and more sanding to reach new looking grain.

What type of varnish or polyurethene(can't spell) should I use? Clear or satin finish? How many coats?

I could really use some helpful advice as I've never undertaken a restoration project before. Thanks...Ed.

It's easier to strip it before you sand it. Don't stain it if it matches. Use marine grade Spar varnish. Cut the first coat in half with thinner. Fine sand between coats. Use a sponge brush for easier application and right before final coat use steel wool instead of fine sandpaper. Have fun! Regards, Jay

Thanks for your info. I printed it out and will use it as a reference starting point.

Jay, your reply was right on the mark, also
and much appreciated.

Started with front locker cover. Removed wooden handles and black rubber spacer at ends and sanded to bare wood. At least some progress. Thanks agian...Ed.
