Whats the largest motor I could put on a 13 classic and still expect to troll? Or am I better to go with a bigger motor then add an electric trolling motor? Thanks for your help.

I think you would just love a 25-30 h.p. 2-stroker for the Classic `13. I had a 71` `13 Sport with a 2-stroke 35h.p. Evinrude, it was fast and trolled slow all day! I think the 30h.p. Johnson of today would be just as strong and troll just as well! I would stay under 180 total lbs. for the engine, preferably below 150lbs. Good luck-Jack Graner. I believe my 35h.p. Rude weighed about 130lbs.

Great info, Thanks. I'm now looking for a 13' made between 1980 and 1991 with a 30 HP 2 stroke. I understand that these are the best model years for the 13. Is there any faults I should be looking for when shopping for my first whaler? Thanks again for your help....Sting

I never had any problem trolling with a 40 Merc on my 13. You can always trim the motor up a bit to make it less efficient.
