I am putting a new 150 evinrude on my 18' and was wondering which holes to mount the engine?

My 150 Johnson was originally mounted to the transom of my 18 Outrage through the second hole from bottom when I got it (bottom of anti-cav plate noticably above bottom of hull). I found the boat to be a little squirley in rough water at that mounting height so I had it lowered one to the second hole from top (bottom of anti-cav plate about even with botom of hull). Top speed performance suffered a little but rough water steering improved. I rarely ran it at WOT so the lost of some speed at WOT didn't matter to me.

The Whaler recommendation for the 18' was one hole up.
