I want to put a tachometer on my 1976 13’Sport. Because the boat is the center steering model (similar to a Sourpuss but without the wrap around rail). It has a full-width narrow console leaving almost no room for a tachometer.

The motor is a 1981 35 hp Evinrude.

So, I would like to find a small tach. About a 2 inch diameter. Does anyone know a brand and where I can buy it?

Go to Cabelas (, type Tachometer into the search and hit go. Thie first thing that comes up is the TinyTach. It is a bit of a pain to wire in, but it is small and also provides a Hobbs (hour) meter function. It is about $40.

Thanks friends for this post and response as I was looking for the same thing.

I have a dumb question though: How do I find which wires coming out of the motor to hook the tach up to. (1998 Evinrude 25hp, 2 stroke, with remote cables and controls).

Not to worry, the Mini-Tach uses induction from a plug wire to run, I have one on a generator, just wrap the wire around the plug wire and set the tach for 1,2 cyls ect. These are good units.
