Was out on friend's new 18' Hydrosport boat yesterday- current prop is aluminum 14 by 23 pitch, 5300 WOT on this set-up (2.59:1 lower gear ratio), full fuel and 2 people. He does a lot of fishing on Cape Cod around rockpiles and shallow water, so a SS prop is out of the question. Currently the boat has nasty dead spot in cruising speed- 12 knots, bow high in the air, or 20 knots on plane and keeps bogging down at this speed and loses plane when going over larger waves or else get beaten up. Engine is mounted 3rd hole up, front of cavitation plate is about even with keel when fully trimmed in. I'm thinking drop down 2 inches in pitch and install Doelfin (doesn't want to spend the $ on trimtabs). Any other suggestions?
